Corti Brothers Newsletter for November 2008 Page 11 From Longo in Milano, who supply our Bardi panettone, we have purchased several sets of a special Sicilian olive oil from the Pianogrillo estate and the Alessi oil taster (Taste-Huile) designed by Pianogrillo owner Lorenzo Piccione and designer Köbi Weisendanger. Pianogrillo oil is produced from the Tonda Iblea variety, and fits perfectly with the Alessi Taste-Huile made out of 18/10 stainless steel. In the form of an olive with a spout, it sits on a small plate. Very attractive, it can be used as an oil taster, but even better as a wonderful piece for serving oil at table. If you are an oil fan, this is a must have. This is a wonderful, attractive gift box for anyone in the olive business.
P.S. If you are thinking about gifts for oil lovers, our blue glass Assaggiaolio is always welcome. This is the official tasting glass used in international trade.
This is a base to be used for your cooking. It is not a ready to use sauce; you have to cook with it. Simple cooking however. Just add coconut milk, stock, or water to use. This is a completely vegetarian sauce. Two others coming in Spring 2009, Green Curry base and Clay Pot sauce, will not be vegetarian. Thai curry comes in three colors: yellow, green, and red. This is the same base used at Mai Pham's famous Lemon Grass restaurant in Sacramento. It is also used to great acclaim at Star Ginger restaurant on the UC Berkeley campus. Use it as a dip, marinade, soup base, and quick dinner maker, especially for unexpected guests. Although Mai Pham is Vietnamese, she has lived in Thailand. Her several cookbooks reflect this amalgam of cultures and her acclaimed restaurant Lemon Grass offers both Vietnamese and Thai dishes. Lemon Grass Kitchen products will eventually comprise a series of items to be used in preparing Thai/Vietnamese dishes. It’s a great beginning.
These are a unique two piece set pasta cutter to make the circular Ligurian pasta called corzetti. They are the perfect foodie kitchen gift, the ultimate in gadgets. Made from pear or beech wood, they have the Corti Brothers design on one side and a traditional design on the other. Boxed, they come with instructions on making corzetti and how to sauce them. We have only a few sets left and they will not be remade.
