In this same vein, Corti Brothers is offering several other wines from the same area which you should consider. These come from the old firm of Dessilani and are new vintages of some of the first, then unknown Piemontese wines Corti Brothers offered in 1970. Again, these are not Langa style nebbiolo wines, (Barolo and Barbaresco) but the more elegant, minerally reds, that even at the turn of the 20th century were called the “Bordeaux wine” of Piemonte.

In this area, nebbiolo is called spanna, and is a clonal variation of the nebbiolo grown in Langa, Carema, and the Valtellina. Blended with spanna are vespolina and bonarda, two local varieties. These Dessilani wines are all eminently worth trying since they represent, with Lessona, another aspect of Piemontese wines.
